Horsham Water & Sewer Authority Well Rehabilitation

G&A prepared specifications and oversaw the rehabilitation of Horsham Water & Sewer Authority’s (HWSA) Well 21.  Well Rehabilitation is the process of restoring the productivity and efficiency of a well through chemical and mechanical treatment techniques.  Well 21 was shut down in 2016 due to PFOS and PFOA contamination. While a permanent resin filtration system was being installed, mechanical and chemical rehabilitation was performed on the well.  Mechanical rehabilitation is a technique that is utilized to break down, dislodge, and remove encrusted materials from the well and aquifer. Chemical rehabilitation involves the addition of chemicals, which are specifically selected based on water chemistry, into the well to reduce chemical incrustation or biofouling of the formation materials.  Rehabilitation techniques were effective in increasing the yield and specific capacity which was an improvement of nearly 50% of the original specific capacity of the well.

Well 21 is now back in service with the new treatment system. G&A continues to provide long term monitoring of the capacity and water quality in HWSA’s public supply wells.
