Green Woods Charter School New Building Addition

Located in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, Green Woods Charter School has garnered a well-deserved reputation for developing students from kindergarten to eighth grade into stewards of the community and has been nationally recognized for exceptional achievement in the field of environmental sustainability. G&A previously provided site design services as part of the initial building construction, including assistance with a $700,000 remediation grant through the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation.

Green Woods Charter School retained Metcalfe Architecture & Design, LLC along with G&A to design an expansion to their current campus. The goals of the capital program include reclaiming common space that was converted to classrooms during the COVID 19 pandemic, enhancing the entrance and circulation providing greater safety, a greenhouse, science classroom, and an  environmental science classroom to support student learning, as well as expanding their outdoor environmental educational space.

Challenged by a recent steep slope certification issued by the City of Philadelphia, G&A was responsible for all aspects of land design, environmental considerations, stormwater management, and all local approvals. Construction is anticipated in 2024-2025.
