Roberto Clemente Park Renovation

This project is part of G&A’s ongoing landscape architecture and design contract with the City of Philadelphia – Philadelphia Parks and Recreation.  The design included creating a new main  entrance into the park from the intersection of 18th and Wallace Streets.  The existing playground was renovated to add new equipment and safety surfacing, that is compliant with current safety standards.  The playground surfacing was designed to mimic a textile pattern with the colors matching the play equipment, and the pattern tying into other areas of the park including the sprayground.  The sprayground has multiple ground spray features as well as a large above grade spray feature (poly-palm).  The sprayground surface is patterned/colored concrete.  Other features include new benches and seating, a steel arbor, picnic tables, and a picnic lawn area.  The design also included renovating and repainting/resurfacing the existing basketball courts.  The landscape concept preserved all of the existing major trees within the project area and added new landscaping including shade and ornamental trees, shrubs, and low-maintenance ornamental grasses and perennials.
