Clifton Heights Middle School Development

Upper Darby School District broke ground in summer 2024 for the construction of a new 104,000 SF middle school and community athletic fields in the heart of the borough.  G&A led the design team on all facets of the new multi-story building, associated parking and utilities, grading, playfields, and stormwater management facilities.  A three-phased erosion and sediment control design, firefighting accesses, NPDES permit application, and significant utility coordination were undertaken.  G&A also provided technical specifications, cost estimating, and bid assistance.

Considerable off-site traffic engineering services for roadway improvements to N. Springfield Road, vital to the new school, include accessible crosswalks and ramps, a bus drop off lane with a barrier to separate buses from through traffic, school flasher beacons, and new storm sewer infrastructure extension benefiting the town at-large.  Full-service engineering for the project includes landscape architecture design, 8 structural retaining walls, and environmental Phase I and II site assessments.

Archeological survey of former building foundations that stood in the mid-19th century was necessary, as was development of a detailed soil management plan for contractor’s disposition of extensive acres of naturally occurring arsenic.
