Ambler Square Design

Formerly a dilapidated asphalt parking lot, the highly visible corner of East Butler and Park Avenues, has been transformed into Ambler Borough’s newest public open space. G&A assisted the Montgomery County Planning Commission and the Borough with securing a $102,000 DCNR Keystone Recreation, Park & Conservation Fund grant to help construct the park, subsequently refining the County’s conceptual plan, secured necessary permitting, and prepared construction drawings.

At a little less than ¼ acre in size, this “Pocket Park” is packed with features including a seat wall, gravel surfaced bosque with precast  concrete seating, porous brick pavers, rain garden, and native landscape plantings.  The paving pattern, created with multiple colors of permeable clay bricks, emulates the Tannery Run that flows beneath the site, encased in a concrete culvert.  This expression of “daylighting” the waterway provides an opportunity to learn about the Borough’s watershed and natural resources.
