Germantown Avenue Streetscape Project Ribbon Cutting

December 8th, 2015

The Philadelphia City Council President Darrell Clarke, The Philadelphia Streets Department, The Philadelphia Department of Commerce, and The Village of Arts and Humanities hosted a Community Celebration Ribbon cutting for the Germantown and Lehigh Commercial Corridor Streetscape.

At the corner of Germantown and Huntingdon Streets a bright red ribbon stretched acrossed the road in front of a podium and the celebration started with a local artist singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.  Next Karen Fegely, Deputy Director at the Philadelphia Commerce Department, spoke of the great efforts and collaboration it took to make this streetscape come to life. Finally, Commissioner David Perri from the Streets Department, spoke about the stages of enhancing the store fronts to the streetscape.  He stressed that in order for areas in the city to be safe, the enhancements of the streets, sidewalks, and store fronts must take precedence.

Gilmore & Associates, Inc. was recognized by both Deputy Director Karen Fegely and Commissioner Perri for the design services that G&A provided.  The G&A team included Bob Solarz, Shiny Mathew, Mike Shinton, Chris Green, Kurt Schroeder, Joe Carlin, Ed Brown, and Joe Cianchetta. This project also included subconsultants Malick & Scherer, P.C. and Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson.

The ribbon was cut by local business owners, Commissioner Perri, Deputy Director Karen Fegely, members of the Department of Commerce, and members of the Village of Arts and Humanities.
