G&A Celebrates Park(ing) Day

G&A Celebrates Park(ing) Day – a global event taking a metered parking spot and creating it into a park for a day.

The G&A team designed a space that was located in Center City Philadelphia at 17th Street, between Market Street and Chestnut Street, featuring re-purposed shipping pallets, reclaimed lumber, salvaged piping, native plant materials, and plenty of games. The space was intended to raise awareness of the importance of public spaces and also to showcase the sustainable aspects of materials and the potential for creative re-use.

On a busy Friday on a highly populated street, with cars, bikes, and pedestrians, the on-looking crowds were quite intrigued at the site of G&A’s parklet. Many stopped to play the games, trying not to make the Jengablocks tumble, and we received many visitors to our Park(ing) space including representatives of:

  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  • U.S. Department of Commerce
  • Plan Philly (Design Organization/Magazine)
  • Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation
  • Philadelphia Department of Public Property
