This project, which is broken into three phases, was made possible through the receipt of $610,000 in Transportation Enhancement (TE) grant funding.
Phase I included installation of a small pocket park at the intersection of Broad Street and Sandy Ridge Road. The park included a retaining wall, lighting, an arched arbor, concrete and brick walkways, bituminous bike path, storm drainage improvements, street print and landscaping.
Phase II included installation of raised crosswalks and landscaped islands at various locations between Atkinson Lane and Union Street, curb improvements, concrete sidewalk removal and replacement at various locations which facilitated pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and the installation of additional handicap ramps.
Phase III included the installation of approximately 60 street trees to serve as a buffer between the bike/hike path and the heavy traffic entering the Borough via the newly constructed Route 611 ramp to Broad Street. This phase also included the installation of approximately 64 historic street lights.
