PHILADELPHIA – Gilmore & Associates, Inc., a design, engineering and technical consulting firm with six offices throughout eastern Pennsylvania, is pleased to announce that G&A staff members Ronald G. Monkres II, P.E., Christopher E. Green, RLA, LEED® AP, Matthew C. Hostrander, SEO, CPSS, and Jennifer S. Gilbert, ASLA, took part in the Delaware Valley Green Building Council (DVGBC)’s second annual Earth Day of Service on April 30 at the Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA).
Green, Monkres, Hostrander and Gilbert also conducted tours of the sustainable site features for students and visitors.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was in attendance, as many organizations and individuals came together to construct and plant an organic vegetable garden and paint a 300-foot mural on school grounds to celebrate and promote environmental stewardship in the city and throughout the region.
Gilmore & Associates, Inc. was part of the design team for the school, which opened in September 2010, and recently became the first public school in the United States to
be certified LEED® Platinum by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Other design team members included SMP & SRK Architects (Architecture), and Alderson Engineering (MEP)
G&A’s design for the seven-acre site features innovative aspects incorporating underground storm water storage, porous paving material, vegetated rain gardens, re-used cobblestone and concrete paving materials, low maintenance lawn areas and areas dedicated to outdoor learning in order to obtain LEED® Platinum status.
